- Take a unforgettable ride to Dursey Island
Situated on the western tip of the Beara Peninsula, West Cork, is Dursey Island. Dursey island is one of the few populated islands in Beara, although its population is tiny. This remote, unspoilt, rugged landscape provides a perfect escape for those wanting to lose themselves in nature.
The Island is separated from the mainland by a narrow stretch of ocean called the Dursey Sound. Visitors can reach the island via Ireland’s only cable car. First opened in 1969, the cable car carries visitors 250m above the ocean, takes just 10 minutes and offers an unrivalled view of the island on approach.
Once safely on Dursey, enjoy the stunning views of the Beara peninsula by walking the island loop alone, or by taking a guided tour. A visit to Bull Rock is highly recommended, where keen birders can spot gannets, guillemots, puffins, razorbills, choughs and Manx shearwaters.
